I am trying to set up a remote base station and was thinking a R-Pi would be just the thing.

I need to control PTT and be able to change channels ( 2 channel radio).
It would be "nice" to be able to tell which channel the radio is on, and that it is in transmit mode.

Thought of two ways this might work, a R-Pi at the remote end ( running asterisk) and an 2 port ATA
at the other end, using one "station" as two way audio and the other as "control'.

                                  OR

An R-Pi at each end, "talking" to each other.

I don't want to "re-invent" the wheel, so if anyone has done anything close to this, Please let me know.

just a few things to consider...

How are you going to actually control the "remote base"?

What freq will you use for control?

there is no such thing by FCC reg as a "remote base"

read the regs for "auxiliary stations" very closely

But there are (at least were) thousands of them in the business world today.
Most were (ARE) "controlled" by a pair of wires from the telephone company.
I have installed hundreds of them, what makes this different, it will be controlled
via the internet. ( this is done today, with pricey equipment).
And by the way, the station will be at the home of another ham.
