Just be warned it's buggy as crap and crashes almost every 30 minutes.
There is no free lunch with HRD.  You can use the old version like I use to and deal with the crashes and lack of features or you can pay the $99 and get something that runs all day long without a problem and has about twice as many features.

What I would like to know is there any way of fudging it to connect to an IC7300?

Yes, there is.   You change the CI-V address in the icom 7300 to the one for an IC7700, then tell HRD you have an 7700.  It is about a 95 percent solution.  A few things on the front panel are redundant like there is only 1 antenna port not 2 etc, but it works quite well.  Every thing else like WSJT-x and FLdigi must be told you have a 7700 also to expect the correct hex address of the 7700 instead of the 7300, but that is not a problem for them.  I did this almost a year ago.
