SatPC32 CAT Tuning - Almost working
« on: January 24, 2017, 03:07:09 AM »

Hi
Using latest SatPC32 with TS2000. Things are almost working except two issues:

1st issue: Once everything is working with Doppler corrections to the TS2000, I can't change my transmit/receive frequency and continue Doppler corrections. Initially, the up and down frequency buttons on the top of the main SatPC32 form are disabled (greyed out). If I select V+ for VFO mode, I can change the frequencies using the radio knobs but the radio stops getting Doppler updates from the PC.  If I click V+ the up down frequency buttons are enabled and change the radio frequency but the Doppler corrections stop. This behavior forces me to use RIT on the radio to fine tune my receive to tune my own downlink when calling CQ but the transmit frequency is only what is selected in the Doppler.SQF file.

2nd Issue: Kind of minor but would like to set it up right. In the Doppler.SQF file I need to set the mode for the downlink to FM then change to LSB after the C+ control is selected. If I don't do this workaround, the radio updates when I select C+ but does not change to adjust for Doppler. I set the frequency difference needed for radio update on the CAT form to 10 for SSB and FM. It works great with the work around... Doppler corrections, every couple of seconds, update on the radio uplink and down link. Issue happens with all analog birds.

This is how it should be:
FO-29,435850,145950,USB,LSB,REV,0,0
This is what I need to do as a work around to get the Doppler corrections to work:
FO-29,435850,145950,FM,LSB,REV,0,0

Please help. Thank you and 73's

There are a couple TS-2000-related sections on the support FAQ page ...

Hopefully someone else will reply with an answer!

Tomorrow I will post screen shots of my set-up for SatPC32 and TS-2000.  Mine works great but it was a bit of a learning curve.

Clint - I looked over the support page some more. Lots of great info there.

Bradley - looking forward to seeing how you got it working.

Thanks much!

I took some screen shots of my SatPC32 config then realized I couldn't upload images here.  I am travelling a bit this week but will get something to you soon.

Just an update to anyone watching this thread. KG7NXH sent me screen shots of his radio setup which looked just like mine other than setting the RTS checkmark that did not change the behavior. So I am taking a new approach of looping back the doppler commands from SatPC32 into a C# app via Com0Com. The C# app will read the radio settings before applying the doppler corrections so the user can use the VFO knob on the TS2000. It is a hack but should work without too much effort. The plumbing is working.. just need to fill in some easy stuff.

Found the issue - It is working now :)

I stumbled upon my problem as I was trying to develop a workaround. The problem turned out to be a bad USB to serial adapter (or its driver) that was allowing commands to be sent to the TS2000 but not back to the PC.

As I was testing basic communications with the TS2000 using a putty session, I found that I could only send commands to the radio.. Nothing would come back in the putty window when I sent simple commands where a response was expected like FA;

So each time SatPC32 would send an updated doppler corrected frequency, it would try to read from the TS2000 by sending FA; to see if the user happened to change the desired frequency using the TS2000 VFO knob. Since nothing was coming back, SatPC32 would simply send the new doppler corrected frequency without accounting for the fact that the user rotated the VFO knob.

Thanks to Clint and Brad. 73's

That's good news, Russ.  Hopefully we'll be chatting on the sats soon.  I should be on Saturday and some evenings (Pacific Time for me).  Keep an ear out for me new callsign - W5SAT.

Let me know if you want to arrange a QSO ahead of time.
