First foray into using SDRPlay as a panadapter
« on: February 25, 2017, 06:04:03 AM »

I just received my SDRPlay last weekend and have had a blast browsing the shortwave frequencies.
To use it as a panadapter for my older TenTec Eagle that lacks the factory IF output I worked through the issues of protecting it from overload when used with a separate receive antenna and having it feed both HDSDR and CWSkimmer.

I'm certainly a new to the world of SDR and still learning CW so it's been fun to figure out.

Where did you get the front-end protector kit?  I need one for my SDR RSP2.

Get some perf board or etch your own board with resist paint if you want a decent other side ground plane, some Schrack relays, a couple of trigger transistors, a few resistors and womp up your own.  His schematic shows in the photo.  While your at it add a gas discharge across the input along with a bi- directional diode chip to ground, and with a couple of capacitors. MDR will be affected a bit but not noticeable in ordinary usage.  These circuits are pretty well documented these days.
