Hi Dave,

I use the RA0SMS version of the mini-whip, and I'm very happy with it up to about 15 MHz. Above 15 MHz, a random wire offers the same performance. Do you see the same behavior with your version?

Sorry Vince, only just viewed the thread again... firstly the RA0SMS antenna is not the same design as a PA0RDT and on top of that, some from Russia that are sold on eBay are of very poor quality (inadequately current rated RF chokes, no polyfuse, lousy assembly). Make your own, they are easy enough.

Mine is mostly used with an SDR receiver and CW Skimmer. Being small and vertically polarised, the signals do differ in strength when compared to a horizontal dipole, however the performance seems OK on the higher bands, although propagation isn’t good on the higher bands at the moment. Your Russian antenna may not perform anywhere near as good as a PA0RDT though.
