New Australian SW Broadcast station
« on: April 15, 2017, 01:17:12 AM »

Al Kirton, General Manager of North Queensland Radio has announced that MW station 4KZ 531 khz, Innisfail North Queensland will begin simulcasting on 5055 khz via a 1.5 KW transmitter and inverted L antenna in May 2017.
This SW signal is intended to provide a radio signal into the Cape York, North Queensland area where no FM or AM/MW services are available.
The hours of operation are  1600 - 0900 Australian Eastern time or 0600 - 1900 UTC.

Residents of this area and other remote areas ie far western QLD have virtually no daytime MW or local SW signal since R'Australias Pacific SW service shut down earlier this year.

Hopefully the signal will travel further afield,  however local news and weather information will be heard in the region now devoid of reliable local signal. This is especially important given this areas subjectivity to cyclone and flooding events.

VK's will be monitoring this signal to see how well it travels, should provide some interesting DX for international listeners as well.
