Wow - Scandinavian and Northern EU as well as SA stations heard with very good signals on 160M tonight. EU last night on 80M was pounding in.

The secret for me on 160M was putting up the K9AY loops.

Now- if the sunspots would hold off for a while - heh heh.

Yup, if we can keep those pesky little cycle 24 sunspots away till spring, things will be great on "TOP Band".

Ok, a few won't hurt (:-)

The several weeks spanning the Winter solstice are wonderful times for lowband DX'ing!

Worked 4S7NE on 80m at his sunrise yesterday -- the culmination of a multi-day stakeout and feverish antenna repairs. VQ9LA was also on the band and  workable, but not needed.

To just hear EU on 160M the other night reminded me of the magic of ham radio. Simply awesome - and now I think 160M is a really cool band!

Rich,
I feel the same way when I hear JA's on 160m.  I've worked two so far this season.

I agree, conditions are wonderfully open on 80M and 160M. 40M has some really interesting stuff popping up at odd times too.

In CQ WW CW a few weeks ago, I failed miserably on 80M getting heard in Europe, but had excellent success to the Pacific.
