Hi,
Yeasu 1200, MFJ-998R External Auto Tuner, Elecraft KPA500 Amp.
Yaesu built in tuner is not used.
Frequencies are programmed into the Yaesu 1200 via the RT Systems programming software.
I go to the proper channel or anticipated proper channel.
Yaesu 1200 20 watts, Amp is bypass
Sequence is:
Mode Button -- to CW
Moni Button -- to turn off monitor over speaker
BK In button -- to enable CW
Key down to allow tuner to tune
Amp to Operate --- making sure SWR is good with the amp.
V/M Button --- Return to channel selected freq and proper mode
Ready to talk.
The need arrises for a channel change
Dial in new channel with the clarifier knob
Press the MCH/GRP button if clarifier knob fails to change channels
Mode button to CW
Moni Button
Bk In Button
CW Key down
Wait for tuner
Test again with amp on operate
V/M Button to return to the proper mode
Fortunately the CW mode will offset away from the new channel, enough to keep from blasting stations already talking.
Yaesu manual no help, as far as I can tell, manual is mostly about the built in autotuner.
Without the above ritual, I cannot tune to support a frequency change or anything else.
I've seen ICOM users get the job done way faster.
of course, i can whistle into the microphone, like CBers do, but that's just stupid.
If anyone knows a way to streamline channel changing/re-tuning on a Yaesu 1200
(Same probably applies to Yaesu 3000, 5000 etc) I would really appreciate finding out.
Thanks much!
