Hi Tom,
Boy, I haven't heard anything about SPESM in years. During my time living in Rockford, IL. between 1974 and 76, I was active on 6 meters and became a member of SPESM. I was encouraged to join by Ted, WA9FEF and Jack, WA5UUD and a few others. Jack lived near New Orleans and Ted and I usually had a QSO with him every weekend on 6. I'm sorry, but I can't remember my SPESM number, but if I recall correctly, it was a very low number.
Of course I also belonged to SMIRK and hold SMIRK #607 and now have the honor of being the SMIRK secretary, and a Board member. We now have over 7000 members worldwide
Tom, it's great to know there are still some of us old timers who remember SPESM. This is my 57th year as a licensed Ham and I'm enjoying it now just as much as I did at the very beginning. I will admit as an old codger though, I'm not too happy about some of the things I hear on the bands these days.
73 and thanks again for bringing up a good organization from the past.
73, Mick
