Is there any way to use a Heil icM mic with FTDX-5000?
« on: August 16, 2017, 04:47:01 AM »

I have a new Heil icM condenser mic that I would like to try using with my Yaesu FTDX-5000 transceiver.  I've used other dynamic and condenser mics with this radio but the icM requires something else to make it work I believe.  Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

That mic was specifically designed for Icom rigs that provide phantom power to the mic.

You can probably make it work with a two-component bias adapter, as shown on the bottom of this page:  https://heilsound.com/heil-amateur-radio/support/dsp-settings/all-things-yaesu/

The mic will probably be "hotter", so expect to reduce the mic gain on the radio by quite a bit.  Please let us know how it works.
