Q for those who have earned DXCC Honor Roll
« Reply #15 on: September 06, 2009, 01:42:29 AM »

46 years so far, and I've been stuck needing one more  for  #1 HR for about 4 years. I missed Navassa because of being away on business. I got back on the last day, he was working by numbers, not much pile up, a nice clear shot. He called for 3s, and as I pressed the PTT, some clown ran a car into a power pole down a road a couple of miles away and the whole area lost electricity for 8 hours.

PLEASE, somebody, put KP1 on!!

I'll post the ARRL's reply to my email - it almost seems (just from the number of DX-peditions that are planned to rare places) that you'd have to spend a good 10 years to reach HR.

I would say it might have been easier to get to HR years ago - but think even without a cluster and the huge pileups - there weren't these large, very well organized DX-peditions way back when. I read the Yasme book - and know that some even tried to fake that they went to rare locations.

So, my guess is that throughout the DXCC Honor Roll history, it has been "relatively consistent" on how hard it is and how long it takes to achieve.

Wow - car hitting a power pole to end your KP1 chase. Now that's what I call frustration. Something tells me that the KP5 Project will figure out a way to get there. They did an amazingly good job on KP5 - and as much for the way they worked with the US Wildlife/Fish and Game (politics) as their set up and operating prowess.

KY6R

To quote a famous film:

"Sh*t happens"

The main thing about getting to the top of the HR is to start early, operate enough, and live long enough!
