Hi all, I would like some insight concerning a "what if" scenerio using remote rig. What I want to be able to do is have my Kenwood TS2000 at home in my shack. I would like to be able to connect it to some sort of remote righ interface that would connect to my home router which has been port forwarded to the interface. Then at another location I would like to have a similar interface connected to my laptop running a rig control software program (like HRD or JJ Radio) and have the microphone connected to either the remote interface or the laptop. I would like to be able to use the rig control software to remotely control the Kenwood. Is such a scenerio possible? If so what exactally (part numbers and names would be helpful) do I need and what should I look out for?

You can go the software route using client and server packages from remotehams.com. They integrate with HRD. You could use a remote login program too but my experience is that the remotehams software is better. The reviews section at eham lists some hardware for remoting, none of which have I ever used so can't say much about them.

Another option that works very well is connect rig control software locally to your radio and then use Teamviewer to remotely access the rig control software. Use Skype for the audio. I have been using a remote station that way for several years. Ham Radio Deluxe is a good rig control program, or you could use Kenwood's software.
