I've got a Yaesu ft857 that has the tiger striping problem. I know I could replace the screen and I probably will eventually but I also love to tinker. What I want to do is to read the 65000 baud ttl serial signal coming form the body of the 857. Decipher the Data then display it on my backup camera screen in my truck stereo. I have a little experience with arduino but I understand the memory limitations will not allow me to use the entire 640*480 screen. I have thought about using a raspberry pi to build the system and output to hdmi then use a hdmi to composite video converter. I have tinkered very little with linux but if I can read the data then output the data in a nice format to the screen then it should work. Any comments or suggestions?
