Chassis painting?
« on: June 17, 2000, 10:53:23 PM »

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I could make a top panel of a old Kenwood TS 820S look new again? Would a local paint company or detailer be an option for matching the color and making the panel look new again without signs of old scuff marks and scratches?
The part is of course no longer available through Kenwood. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you go to: www2.southwind.net/~n0alo/
you'll find everything you ever wanted to know about painting and restoring radio panels. They sell paint for almost any radio you can think of.

I use the PreVal spray gun/charger units.  These are available from many automotive parts suppliers.  They have a ca. 300 ml jar for the paint.  You can take the cabinet top to the auto paint supplier and get it computer matched, and after a little wet-sanding with 220 then 600 grit, you're ready to go.
