Windows 10 ver 1709 vs. MARS digital Softwares
« on: January 17, 2018, 10:11:54 AM »

Greetings,

7 month old Windows 10 version:
Until this month, the two MARS digital softwares, that run in tandem, worked
perfectly, delivering text from even very weak signals, and always sending
properly.

Along comes the Sceptre Meltdown vulnerabilities in the intel chips,
and the soon to arrive exploits of these vulnerabilities.

Microsoft says they will protect us.  So, I upgraded to Windows 10 ver 1709, Build 16299.192
and that's the only change made to my dedicated MARS drive/login.

Upon upgrading Windows,
he two digital softwares (or at least one of them) only succeeds (revealing the incoming
text) about 10% of the time, and my transmitted text has been overmodulating the
flex 6500, even when I reduce power and audio on the flex.  All other flex functions
work fine.

Probability is reasonable that the upgraded Microsoft Windows is diddling with
the performance of the two MARS digital softwares; again, the only change
to a well running windows box was upgrading Microsoft Windows.

Anyone else experiencing a performance drop?

Thanks

Recheck your audio input/output settings. A lot of times Windows updates resets things back to defaults.

I have had to reset the audio levels in Windows several times after various updates. The software works fine, except for one previous version that was crashing on opening (pre-meltdown)

The change is is not in windows per say. It has to do with the way buffers/caches are used and flushed on CPU by default and changes were made to change the way they are used to close a seurity hole. There will be some drop in performance due to reduced use of these buffers which takes extra cpu cycle to make up for o any given task. If you have a marginal system (slower CPU and limited ram) you will see impact the most.
