I loved the old Passport to World Band Radio. WRTH in my opinion is great also, but very expensive for what it is. I still splurge and get one every year. I have listened to SW all of my life since I was seven and a friend of my mother's in the USAF gave me a Heathkit HR10 receiver. I still have it, but it needs to be recapped and realigned. I cannot find anyone who still works on tube gear, which is a shame. But I digress...

I am still hoping against hope that the international SW situation improves, and I am optimistic on that front as with all of the conflicts that are raging around the world (that the U.S. mainstream press ignores) demands that the various nations have outlets that cannot be censored in order to voice their version of things. Lets see, India and China are almost in a nuclear war, Pakistan is siding with China (of course), Turkey and Russia are coming to blows, Greece and the EU are about to get into it with Turkey, Azerbaijan and Armenia are about to blow up, China is threatening Taiwan and Japan (who is threatening to change its' constitution that was imposed upon them by MacArthur that will allow them to have a full fledged military), and then on top of all of that, things are happening in the middle east that less than five years ago would have been unthinkable. The internet and all of its sparkle has one very bad flaw that sticks out like an elephant in a tea party: it is very easily censored by a few folks with their agendas. SW radio is relatively immune to this (yes, there are jammers but it takes a LOT of power and money to successfully jam a SW broadcast). Thus, I see a glimmer of hope for the future of SW broadcast. I have heard some rumors that several medium sized nations are dusting off their old transmitters.
