Remote Operation Recomendation
« on: March 04, 2018, 04:07:47 PM »

I am interested in operating remotely from my motor home.  I have three radios which possess this capability.  An IC-7100, a TS-480HTX, and a K3.  Using the K3 would require me to purchase the remote head.  The K3 would allow me access to the KPA500 and KAT500.  Just curious as to others experiences with any of these three radios.  I'd like to avoid needing a computer so RemoteRig appears to be the way to go.
Thanks for any recommendations/information/serious opinions,

To take full advantage of your KAT500 and KPA500 you would need a base station computer.  This would allow you to use software to control them.  I use a K3, a KAT 500, and a homebrew 1KW solid state amp.  Which I access from my RV.  I dedicate a PC for the remote base.  Take a look at Win4K3Suite.  It provides an integrated control of the K3, the KPA 500, and the KAT500.

I use Team Viewer for remote access to the PC, and Skype for audio.

My remote station is my primary station, and I use it from home and when in the RV.  I can access it from a laptop, or from a SmartPhone.  You may find when traveling that your Internet speed won't be the best.  I find the wireless in RV parks to be unusable.  I instead use my phone as a wireless hot spot and get much better bandwidth and less latency.
