I need to fool my computer
« on: April 23, 2018, 12:29:56 PM »

have a Dell laptop I am using as the shack computer, and on the internal soundard, the mic in part of the jack quit working-it has that 4 pin single jack for both microphone and headphones.  I am using a Signalink USB interface to get the sound in and out for remote control and for digital modes operating.

For remote control, it would be easier just using a single cord to a mic in jack. I bought a USB cable for microphones.  Now I need to fool my computer into thinking the USB cord plugged into a USB jack on the computer is seeing a microphone-which is actually the speaker jack on my TS2000.

Any ideas how I can get this set up so I can do the audio into the computer with a single cable and no soundcard interface?

The OS should recognize the Signal link as a USB sound card with outputs and mic or line in. In Linux  Burr-Brown from TI USB Audio CODEC at usb-0000:00:13.0-5, full speed
or a PCM2904 audio codec. In Fldigi it shows up as USB AUDIO CODEC under capture.

Yes, the computer does recognize the Signalink and that works fine, but I was hoping that I could just use a USB cable to the speaker or headphones output to set the sound into Teamviewer, as it would be easier to set everything up that way.

Ok , i am starting to get the picture . It sounds like what you have is a USB cable with an integrated sound card in it. Something like a Behringer MIC 2 . Again this should show up as a USB sound card when you plug it in.

That USB cable for microphones has to have a built-in sound card device.  When you plug it in, you should see a new device show up in the list of recording devices.  Set that new device as the default in your software.

The headphone and speaker audio levels from the radio might be too high for your USB soundcard device.  You would probably get better results from an accessory output.  This is what makes the Signalink the better interface for remote operation. You use the radio's accessory audio path, which usually doesn't change if you manually operate the radio when you are in the shack.  (Remember to disconnect/disable your microphone if it stays active... )

Your new cable is basically just half of a Signalink.  This would probably not be an improvement over that interface, unless you just want more flexibility.

FYI, Windows 10 has a bad habit of rearranging sound devices and serial ports when it updates.
