Launching High-Altitude Balloon Carrying APRS Sunday
« on: June 02, 2018, 07:14:53 AM »

Several local schools here in Nashua, NH have been working with the Nashua Area Radio Society on a STEM learning project to launch a High-Altitude Balloon (HAB) this weekend. Our HAB will be carrying a 2m ARPS transmitter and you can track it using aprsi.fi. We will be flying using the callsign N1FD-11. We plan to launch our balloon between 14:30 z and 15:30 z on Sunday, June 3rd from Hollis, NH USA. The image above was taken from our HAB during a previous flight. You can read more about our HAB and how to track our HAB via the link below -

The video below contains highlights from our first two HAB launches.

We are planning to live stream video from our HAB launch and recovery on Sunday to the Nashua Area Radio Society (N1FD) Facebook page.

We hope that folks here on qrz.com will join us via aprs.fi and our Facebook page to share our HAB launch experience.

Was a great flight! When is de-briefing available? I was wondering if emitter or sensors could be dammaged in some way while landing... I enjoyed the map monitoring
Thanks for sharing

Our Balloon was launched this morning around 10:30 am ET and it flew to over 114,000 ft. We recovered out HAB and it is in good shape. We're busy processing the data and video captured by the balloon. Thank you to the folks who tracked out HAB.

We've posted a picture of the students just before they launched their balloon along with a link to a post about our flight on our website. You can take a look at the pictures and read the post here -

We have lots of great pictures and video including some taken from the balloon in flight! Our first priority is to prepare the atmospheric and flight data captured by our balloon for analysis by our students later this week. Once this is done, we'll work on a flight video and make some more pictures of the launch and recovery. We'll post these here as they are available.

Thank again to everyone's nice comments about our project. We appreciate your kind words.
