Long APRS RF Hops?
« on: June 13, 2018, 06:53:17 PM »

There’s an app called APRS DX Aggregator than can run alongside of UIVIEW or APRSISCE32 that monitors for long APRS VHF hops of 400km+. Does that happen often on land-based stations?

So my longest direct RF APRS DX was 189mi between Manchester NH and New York, NY, according to APRSISCE32.

If you've got troposoheric ducting....that's entirely possible. I once sent a packet out from Warrenton VA that got picked up in North Carolina.

The thing to watch out for...what what I've heard people say to watch out for....is a digipeter that's misconfigured and not inserting itself in the packet. That can make some hops look artificially long.
