IC-F221S repeater mod
« on: July 30, 2018, 04:42:22 PM »

Hi All,

I am trying to modify a IC-F221S for use as a repeater link for a pair of 2 meter repeaters. I have the correct programming software and am following these instructions:

http://www.repeater-builder.com/icom/pdfs/ic-121-221-series-repeater-mod.pdf

So far I can't get the COS line to work. It says that the output should be active low, which means I should find a high signal on pin 6 of the accessory cable. However, even though I have the software configuration as shown in the above linked PDF and have soldered the split pad "F" I just can't get it to work. I suspect there must be a software setting wrong. Any ideas?

Thanks!

"Active low" could mean it's an open collector that gets connected to ground when true.  So you might need a pullup on that line to see voltage when not true.  Just a thought.

Hmm, that is an idea. It could be, I hadn't thought of that. I am at work for another 24 hours but I will check that when I get home. I'll use a pullup resistor of a few k and see what happens.

Thanks!

When I was wiring a GE voter to work with an E&M line, I think I used a 33k pull up.  I decided that the receiver radios (Midland something or other) sounded like crap (nonexistent deemphasis), so I used genuine GE aux receivers with 1950 status tones.  That made the wiring much easier.  Just one twisted pair from each RX to voter.
