That was a different program. FCC had (prior to the 1980s) an unofficial program that sometimes allowed former hams to reclaim their old call signs. But again, this was not referred to as a vanity callsign. The 1976-1977 program was only for Extras, and only allowed selection of 1x2s. It was based on Docket 20092, and documented in QST in the June 1976 issue, page 55. The AC6V Ham History page has an accurate writeup.
Yes....but....FCC would not have reissued N2EY back then. (The rules later changed). So by keeping N2EY, one more Extra got a short call.73 de Jim, N2EY
All of those who put in their applications on the 5th should find out today if their application was granted. I lucked out and got my first choice of callsign. Who else got a new vanity call today?
I put in about five choices. As usual -- NADA! LOL. I've applied in the past for a few choice 1x2 W1 or K1 calls, but never got in sync with the FCC lottery.
is there a typical length of time it takes to get a vanity call after application?
Quote from: KN4TZJ on April 30, 2019, 05:03:26 AMis there a typical length of time it takes to get a vanity call after application? It's typically 18-20 days, depending on the day of the week you applied. FCC only processes vanity apps on certain days of the week, leading to the variation. Holidays can trigger some variations depending on when they occur within those periods.More details are on AE7Q's web site, on the Explanatory Notes page.
