Slow CW Frequencies?
« on: December 13, 2018, 10:52:49 PM »

Is there a favorite 40 meter frequency that kind of favors the slow fists?
(Getting back up to where it was years ago.) sigh
Lot of QRM in my area so I prefer after midnight operating, but any time will be accepted.
I'm desperate!! Hi.

Other than during contest weekends, higher is usually slower. The SKCC 7060 freq area OZ8AGB listed is pretty common for slower CW. The FISTS freq of 7028 doesn't seem like a common slow speed spot, but once PSK kinda stomped on the old traditional use of 7040 for QRP, I think many of the QRP orgs moved the suggested freq to 7030,

I'm working to build my CW speed too but I try not to limit myself to the "slow" frequencies. The "slow" people may have a handicap but should get equal treatment in my view (... kind of sounds like life on another level). Be proud of whatever speed you are currently operating at and call CQ! Similar speed hams will find you (a simple 'twist of the dial'), or some nice faster ham who remembers the early struggles learning CW will surely answer near your speed. :)

The SKCC frequencies are a good place to start.  Might also consider joining SKCC.  They're a very friendly and welcoming bunch.

What about slow CW for beginners in Europe on 40?   I guess 7114 KHz is not so much in use here...  On 20m I've had some nice slow contacts on 14055.

AM seems to be fizzing out somewhat as the old guys retire or downsize, so I would like to get back into CW.
Is there much activity, or is it the usual suspects?
I used to love the old novice bands, plenty of slow CW for some ragchews.
I used to be good for about 20 wpm, now its about 4, its been over 30 years of little to no cw...takes brain power to relearn, something I am short of....

Tell me about it! I was the same way and after 25 years away and now in my 80's, … sigh … Hi.
It gets harder to get back into the game, the older you get.
And the game has changed drastically as far as tinkering goes. WOW! A whole new ball game. We have to learn a different language. Condensers and megacycles are Latin now. Hi.
I'll be watching for you on the old Novice portion of 40. Welcome "home".(?)

Rich;
I've discovered that, unlike "the old days," I'm not allowed down there now. Being only a General licensee, I now am allowed to work from 7.175 to 7.300.
 … sigh …
Aarrgghh!! It was tough getting that ticket in those days! Comes the revolution! Hi

Oops!!! Also from 7.025 to 7.125. Must have been an older chart I was looking at.

in this neck of the woods - it's difficult to find any Local CW at all,
and most of any CW is from the VK east coast or from some JAs on 15m.

there was an movement to suggest that folks who are slow with the CW mode,
- would stick to the bottom 25khz of whatever band(s),, that were licensed to use.
but, that idea didn't take off, that well, unfortunately.

it did seem that the folks who could work HST,, would always go wherever they could do so,
& thus the suggested was ignored.  ::)

I often find 7105 to 7125 has less rapid-fire contest cw and more slower speed cw. 7122 is also used by some qrp ops who generally operate at slow speeds.
