If something is an identifiable tune, then I'd consider it music.
Usually the boxes just play tone sequences that don't mimic a specific melody, and often aren't on
the standard note intervals, so they aren't obviously music. You still have lots of room for creativity...
Or use a voice recorder chip and record your own non-musical sounds, like a rooster crowing, or a car
trying to start. We used to torture one hunter who worked for the phone company by using a tone
generator that sounded rather like a telephone ringing, but the timing was a little off...
