I'd like to have a way to tweak the crystal frequency for better calibration. The ancient Palomar design predated modern digital modes and SDRs. Perhaps it could use better isolation between input and output. Still, the old Palomars did the job for most purposes.

There is something on the board, "xcvr" that may shut off the
converter when used with a transceiver (but don't most transceivers
have a separate antenna for that now?).
The Jackson Harbor Press uses a 7 to 40 pf ceramic trimmer
to set the crystal.
Maybe you could put one across the crystal
in this one.
As for the rest,have no idea what he's referring to.
