TKR-830 won't repeat
« on: February 06, 2019, 01:55:24 PM »

Hi All,

I have a TKR-830 here on the bench. I can't get it to repeat however. It receives a signal and audio can be heard through the speaker but it does not repeat. If you key up with the mic it transmits on the correct output frequency. It is acting as if it has a tone set which it is not receiving BUT it does not have a tone board. So it receives, the busy light lights but no TX. Any ideas?

Has it been configured as a repeater?  Someone may have previously set it up as just a base station.  Motorolas can be configured that way.

I see no mention in the service manual about where to configure as a repeater but it does seem it is something like that. There is nothing in the software as far as I can see. Any idea where I might find it or a term to search for in the manual?

Motorola referred to it as PTT priority.  It was listed as picking from local (hand mic), wireline (tone or DC remote), or repeater.  If one of those was dropped from the list, it wouldn't operate that way.  If you used an external controller, the only one you'd want to enable was local PTT.  Yours may be set up this way.

Do you have a link to a manual?  I could take a peek.

I think I figured it out, with help from someone over at radioreference. It is not supposed to be a stand alone repeater, it was meant to be plugged into a trunking system or repeater controller. By putting a couple of jumpers on the DB25 I have it doing a basic repeat.

No link to a manual, I had to get Kenwood to send me a copy. Perhaps I should post it somewhere, I couldn't find it online.

Thanks!
