Are you sure you don't have to bring a goat or something?

Only if using a SCSI array......

I have only missed two since 1992, but I am not going this year. Medical problems limit my mobility too much. Those of you who do go, enjoy it. I'll think of you!

Why call it Dayton? Dayton is over.

that is up to the host, but Dayton is much larger and more well-known than Xenia; plus Xenia is part of the Dayton Metropolitan area

for most non-locals, i would think calling it Dayton gives them a better picture of where it actually is...

Quote from: Wikipedia
Xenia (/ˈziːniə/ ZEE-nee-ə) is a city in and the county seat of Greene County, Ohio, United States.[11] The municipality is located in southwestern Ohio 15 miles (24 km) from Dayton and is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area, as well as the Miami Valley region. The name comes from the Greek word Xenia (ξενία), which means "hospitality"

I know where Xenia is. And it's not in Dayton.

Hara Arena is not in the City of Dayton, either  (it is in Trotwood).  The Dayton Hamvention has not been in the City of Dayton since the 1960s.  However, it has always been in the Dayton SMSA and it has always been sponsored by the Dayton Amateur Radio Association.

Wonder what happened to W8JX?
Haven't heard a peep out of him, and it's only a few days until Hamvention.
The entertainment value of a thread related to Hamvention is sorely lacking without him.

I hope he's OK.

Actually I find the lack of QRM rather refreshing.

HARA may now be in Trotwood, but for years it was just in Harrison Township. It’s all about cities gobbling up tax revenue.

In relationship of Dayton and the municipal area its news to me that Xenia is now in the municipal area. Then why isn’t Dayton now the greater Cincinnati Ohio Municipal Area???

how did we jump from the fact that Xenia is part of the Dayton Metropolitan area to asking why Dayton isnt part of the Cinci municipal area ???

worth noting:

* Dayton is an hour away from Cinci
* Dayton is an urban area
* Dayton is not a small satellite of Cinci -- it is half its size in terms of population

Points well taken. Looking at the W5KUB feed it looked like attendance was down.

So far, no reports.  Weather information indicated Xenia received over an inch of rain early Friday morning.  That had to have affected the flea market.

Strange that by now, no one has posted anything on site conditions.

I visited Hamvention yesterday and en route the weather looked good -- so rather than going to a satellite parking location I parked on site.  I saw no evidence the place was hit by heavy rain Friday.
There were a couple of spots with mulch on the grass but those were isolated, very small in size, and seemed dry.  The flea market seemed fine too...

and -- just in case anyone is curious -- i saw no evidence of any farm animals (just a lot of hams)  :)
