Great.  Glad all went well.  No need for carping after the fact.  :-)

My buddy and I went Friday and today. Here are my opinions on the Hamvention. First off, signage going in was great. Radio info on AM radio 1620 and noticed a sheriffs car at major intersections. We saw no issues at all getting in. Parking was great onsite. Weather was no issue. It was great weather. Very small areas with any mud and anybody complaining probably should just park their butt in front of tv and stay there. Facility is outstanding. Very clean, friendly people everywhere. Great food selection from the various food wagons. Much much better than anything Hara ever offered. We did miss the Ye-Haw girls but ya can't have everything. Flea market area was also great. Gravel paths really help. There did seem to be a few holes in the flea market but I dont know space wise how it compares with Hara. Didnt see any sewer geysers anyway. All in all, DARA and the fairground hit it out of the park.

One thing that did stand out to me was some vendors (most notably to me - Gigaparts) didnt bring any equipment to the fest but had a online order station. I would think this really hurt their sales but I could be wrong. I can always order online from home. At Dayton, I want to handle it!

Also for all the Ten-Tec people, we went by the tentec booth several times and saw very little traffic. Couple commercial receivers, an eagle and a argonaut were on table. I did not see the purported new Omni VII. It may have been there but we didnt see. I wish him luck.

See you next year.

i attended Saturday and saw the Omni VII+ -- it was in the center section and on a smaller table back behind the front tables (right of the Eagle and left of the Alpha amplifier tables).  I believe it will be on sale from www.tentec.com starting next week.  here is a pic -- it has a metal front panel and upgraded knobs and buttons (i was encouraged to try them out and the knobs moved like butter and the buttons were softer and more tactile than the original Omni VII):

Compared to many I am an amateur amateur as far as the Dayton fest goes.  Was able to attend 3 years worth at the old location, not concurrently and have been at the last 3 since they moved to Xenia, but I would like to pass along my thoughts. (like you all really want to know!)

Anyway, this was one that in my rememberence was not plagued by rain during the day (I wasn't there Sunday so if this statement is wrong, I apologize). I can endure heat better than cold so this was great. Parking for me was at the Xenia high school which I find to be a great place to get in and out of and I really like this year the way they did the bus drop off at the location. Instead of the hay rack ride, you are put right there! Kudo's to whomever decided on that. Also again the golf carts to help us who bought large heavy items, thanks!!

I don't normally get into the talks but I sat in the youth forum while I ate an early lunch (this also was great as I ate around 11 and had no lines to wait in) and was excited to hear what 2 young people where doing in the hobby.

Vendor representation was good for all the big ones and I also noted the Ten Tec area was rather empty. The flea market was fuller than I remember last year and again was great to walk on dry ground. Was in the market for a boat anchor in pretty good shape to clean up and use and picked up a nice Hammarlund HQ-145x. Was told it worked and got it home and it did!

I stayed up in Springfield and had no issues with the commute on Friday and Saturday and as I went directly to the High School there was no traffic issues.

Thanks to DARA for all their time and effort they put into this event.  Look forward to next year.

Question:

For the people that only attended Sunday and received a free ticket, where they able to participate in the hourly drawings on Sunday and the major prizes at the end of Hamvention????

So far, no reports.  Weather information indicated Xenia received over an inch of rain early Friday morning.  That had to have affected the flea market.

Strange that by now, no one has posted anything on site conditions.

We arrived Thursday night and had storms come through that night and Friday night.  This the exception of a few puddles and humidity there was no noticeable issues.  The flea market and volunteer parking area seemed to be solid.  Left early Sunday for home so don't know about any issues on that day.

No. Only paid tickets went in the hopper.

are you suggesting that non-local (would-be) attendees stay in their hotels, or dont make the trip, based on [potential for] rain???
also -- anyone know what percentage of attendance is local?

Determining "local" would be next to impossible.  Who do you consider "local"?  If it's those who don't stay in hotels, then count me as local - although it's a three hour (each way) trip.
