2m/70cm crossband or other bands too?
« on: March 13, 2019, 11:35:23 PM »

Are you only allowed to crossband 2m/70cm or can you crossband with other bands too?

Example... 2m/1.25, or 1.25m/70cm, or 70cm/33cm, or any other combination of bands allowed for your class of license?

There isn't anything that says it has to be 2m/70cm. That is by far the most common rig but there are 2m/220 rigs available as well as tri banders, quad banders, etc. The one rule to be aware of is if you are controlling the cross band repeater from your HT. You can't use any frequency lower than the FM portion of 10M and any controlling of the cross band repeater has to be on 2m or higher.

To operate your crossband setup according to the FCC regulations, the transmission frequency from the crossband radio to the HT must have an automatic ID with your call programmed. You don't need to worry about the other transmit frequency, as long as you are properly IDing when you transmit from your HT. If your crossbander doesn't bidirectionally repeat, then you may not need to worry about the automatic ID.

There are a couple of radios that have the ID feature built in.
