Universal Radio
« on: April 02, 2019, 03:02:40 AM »

I just recently purchased a nice Sangean PR-D5 radio from Universal Radio. It was a phone call order using a credit card. I ordered it mid day Thursday and had the radio Saturday morning at my door. The salesman was nice and pleasant to talk to and work with. I even received a free AM/FM DXing book with the order. The price of the radio was by good also. That's what I call good service.

I have dealt with Universal Radio for 15 or more years. I never EVER had an issue with them. All transactions were fast.
I think they have one of the most user friendly web pages. Everything is so easy to find. They also have great informative videos.

Recently licensed, and purchased first radio from Universal radio. Was looking for an affordable alternative to baofeng etc. HT's.  from a US dealer.

Settled on a Yaesu Ft 4xr. I realize this radio is also Chinese, but having the Yaesu engineering, warranty and support for less than 70.00 made an easy choice.

Rec'd the radio in less than a week. Several accessories were back ordered, but Universal beat their estimated time by about a week.

Studying for the general, and hope to test once things are back to normal, and will definitely be shopping them for the next step.

Been a customer since early 90's.  Made at least a couple dozen purchases over the years.  Twice there was a minor issue but Fred, Barb, or a member of their staff stepped right up a took care of the issue to my complete satisfaction. They continue to be mu supplies by choice.

I too have been a Universal Radio customer for many years and was always totally satisfied with the sales people over the phone and with their quick deliveries.  None better.  I do miss their printed catalogs though.  It would be fun to look back at their older catalogs to see what was popular in the day.

In reference to the comment made by N2HUN, about Universal catalog; I do have one of their catalogs, I received their latest [2019A] November 23, 2019.   I got a e-mail note in early 2020, that their latest/new catalog wont be available until late 2020.

In 2013 I was part of a team that worked with Farber Custom Coach in Columbus to design and build a custom comms bus for our county.  At the time, Universal was just down the street and we spent many happy hours browsing their store.  Nice folks to do business with.

That's true!  And their website is excellent.

I've ordered from Universal Radio several times and have always been a happy customer.

They do have the most informative website when it comes to looking at radios-both present and past.

Long live Universal Radio!  In addition to saving a bundle on a $1500 rig with their no sales tax on items shipped outside of Ohio I love their friendly and helpful staff and their unique "ham cats" page.  While I am a relatively new customer I will continue to patronize them every chance I get.

They are the best!

Since the village idiots got the thread about Universal in Misc locked, I'll mention in this one that their last business day is the end of this month.

Have purchased a lot of gear and supplies from them over the years. An M-7000v5 decoder sits to my left, looking at APRS activity on 144.390. I recall seeing those new in their showroom during a trip with a ham buddy many years ago.

A very class act. They'll definitely be missed.
