Hamvention Free on Sunday
« on: April 16, 2019, 02:03:58 PM »

I just read where the gates at the 2019 Hamvention will be FREE on Sunday.

https://hamvention.org/hamvention-to-open-gates-on-sunday/

I don't know if that will be good or bad, or maybe both....

I'd expect that after, say, 1PM or so on Sunday.
Earlier than that would indeed be a pleasant surprise.

Admission was indeed free sunday. They even had people passing out tickets at gate so "freebies" could register for prizes.  Great fest!!!

Was watching the W5KUB Internet broadcast when Tom did an interview with this year's Chairman for the HAMvention. Yes, admission was FREE so they could get a ticket count to see how many new people show regardless whether they were Ham or Not. The word for the day is "Head Count" as in added to total event number.

Question:

For the people that only attended Sunday and received a free ticket, where they able to participate in the hourly drawings on Sunday and the major prizes at the end of Hamvention?  :(

The HAMvention Chairman did not indicate that the FREE ticket holders would participate in any Sunday prize drawings. I've heard nothing from any other W5KUB broadcast interviews saying otherwise and I haven't any way to confirm if it actually happen.

Looking at the HAMvention web site under the PRIZE section, nothing said there either. The 2019 major Prize winners for the top 14-prizes were all Hams. Also the process for collecting admission tickets did not indicate if any special "special" handling for the Sunday FREE admission tickets to be excluded from the prize drawings.  If that was the case, clearly it would not be disclosed on the web site.

Someone with 2019 HAMvention needs to answer this question.

Not the case. They were handing out the small end of the ticket stub so they could keep track of attendance. They kept the other end. Those tickets were not eligible for prizes.
