Quick straw poll: Who regularly calls CQ on the higher-frequency HF bands at this point in the sunspot cycle, even if it may (or may not) be futile?

I have a mobile station and a couple of times on the way to work, even when the band is dead I call cq into the darkness.
My comment is about 5 replies back.

I have called yesterday on 10 meters on FT8. Pointed south.  Called for about 10 minutes.  Called CQ on SSB today from the mobile on 50.125 the 6 meter SSB calling frequency.  nada on both.  Good news: it didn't cost much to do.

Wait till Nov Dec . It will wake up during the CQ WW CW , and the ARRL 10 meter .  There wont be much DX across the ponds , but you may see strange things like 10 meters opening at 11 o'clock at night especially in the ARRL 10 . The Geminid shower coincides with the contest this year so Friday night and Saturday could get interesting.  We might even get a bounce or two into VK or ZL .

10 Meters had a nice opening to South America this afternoon, and I worked CE3TL on FT8. Good timing that I happened to have switched over to 10 Meters on a whim. :-)

Sounds like TEP  (Trans Equatorial Propagation)

How frequent/common is TEP?

My answer is "I don't know".  The below is from a part of an article from K9LA

TEP is most prevalent in the late afternoon and early evening hours of the equinoctial
months at high solar activity, but dont rule out TEP at lower solar activity (as
experienced by N4QQ). And make sure you check 10m, too as TEP on 6m may not be
occurring, but it may be happening on this band.

rather than make a new post that sounds like whining,,
I just looked at the propagation numbers, so sad it like the sun hates the hobby.
67 a21 K3 and minor and moderate storms.. It can't get any worse..
Those poor numbers are indication of propagation, but some propagation can still happen??

TEP an Es can still happen.  Only we are not in Es season.  That ended in August. We will get the little winter one starting about Dec 1st.

Yes 10 meters was hot September 27. From Hawaii I worked 74 stations on FT8 in an hour and a half, mostly Japanese with a handful of Australians and continental U.S.

10 meters has been open almost every day. Running 100 watts to an inverted-vee I call CQ on FT8 and see reports on PSK Reporter, making QSOs on most days.

Saw several countries today on 10 FT8

From NW OREGON I worked a few very strong Brazil stns on SSB and then pitcairn VP6R on 28.074 ft8.

I wish the vp6 had also been on cw or ssb because we were both in the plus single digits on .074 which is certainly cw and ssb workable.

Just about every weekend on 10meters, which is the only time I can get on cw/ssb during the day hours, I have had a few SOUTH AMERICANS on 10 SSB and/or cw.

During work day hours I have a 29.6 FM remote link to my home station during lunch hours, a 100 watt Motorola fm radio to a 4 element owa yagi and even on FM I have 1 or 2 real short 29.6 openings to southern/central Cal. every week.

Oops that was  28.091 F/H for VP6R.

I also worked the VP6R on 10 ssb with very strong sigs yesterday so there is still life on 10 meters albeit short fast openings similar to 6 meter openings.

Still 10 is useable these days.
There were also two  ZL's and four KH6 on 10 SSB this weekend for the CQWW contest, while the openings were short  in duration only lasting 5 to 15 minutes  there was still some life in the band.
