Team Viewer turned off my account
« on: September 05, 2019, 08:21:05 AM »

I have been using Team Viewer for several years to access/control my Internet remote station.  I have been extremely satisfied with the performance.  Yesterday when I attempted to connect to my remote station I got a message that they had detected commercial use of my Team Viewer account so they disconnected me.  They gave me the option to purchase a license, which costs $50 a month!  I have submitted an appeal to Team Viewer but in the mean time, I can't use Team Viewer to run my remote station.

I researched other alternatives and installed Any Desk.  It installed easily and runs very well, maybe even faster than Team Viewer.  The only downside that I have found is Any Desk does not support bi-directional audio.  That isn't a problem for me because I use Skype, not Team Viewer audio.

I don't know if Team Viewer has changed the policies or monitoring, but if you are using Team Viewer you might want to install a backup alternative.

Google remote desktop can work too.  Google is NOT a verb in this sense but a noun.

Yeah Teamviewer kicked me to the curb too. I wasn't using it for commercial either. Just helping hams get their computers and their rigs interfaced with WSJT-x.

I filed an appeal three days ago and have not heard back from them.  My opinion of Team Viewer has fallen.  I plan on staying with Any Desk, but thanks for the info on Google.

I had something similar happen with Team Viewer, which I use exclusively for ham radio. As I recall, they offered me a way to confirm that I was not using it for commercial purposes, and reinstated me. But who knows for how long? Based on the comments made here, maybe I need to look at Any Desk and Google Remote Desktop. Are there any other favorites in this category?

How long it it take Team Viewer to respond to you?  I am still waiting to hear from them.

Thanks for the Anydesk info.  I downloaded and installed it.  Another arrow in the quiver. Some people don't like the chrome desktop app because obviously you need the Chrome browser and they don't like google and chrome.  My only goal was to help guys setup their software and I don't get paid for doing that, so Teamviewers "you using it commercially" BS algorithm was kind of unfair.

I also used Teamviewer for years and they shut me off recently.
I appealed as I only use Teamviewer for ham radio.  I heard nothing back.

I am now struggling to get the MFJ-1234 up and running.
I have it running now on my iPhone but yet to get it going on my MAC.

I still have heard back from TeamViewer on my appeal.  Thankfully Any Desk has been working very well for me.  I also used TeamViewer from my Samsung cell phone. I see they have an Android version but I haven't downloaded it yet.

I was using Teamviewer to help my family whenever one of their computers had a problem.
Same thing, commercial use suspected. Didn't even bother appealing. Went to Anydesk.
Seems we live in a world now where nothing software-wise is irreplaceable.
Been fine with Anydesk ever since. As far as I'm concerned, no loss for me.
Seems these days, people just won't put up with the stuff Teamviewer is doing.
They'll just go somewhere else.

My luck with Teamviewer finally ran out when I received yet another message saying my account was being disabled because I used it for commercial purposes (untrue, by the way). AnyDesk works fine.

I had the exact same experience with TeamViewer.  It started after the one and only time that I selected "File transfer".  I just wanted to see what it was all about.  I had been using TeamViewer to look at the screen for the PC that I have RCForb Server installed on for remote control of my club's HF station.  I complained to customer service and eventually received a "Declaration of private use" form to fill out and return.  My service was supposedly restored, but the duration of the restoration was so short that I didn't even notice it.

See http://www.teamviewer.com/en/pricing/commercial-use/ for TeamViewer's definition of commercial use.

Note that "Assisting businesses or organizations, even on a voluntary basis" is listed under commercial use while "Helping or supporting friends and relatives" is listed under personal use.  I guess the former applies to me.

The bottom line is that I continue to use TeamViewer.  I simply close the messages and continue.  The remote screen stays up until I close TeamViewer  Once I close TeamViewer, I have to wait five minutes before I can open it again.  Duh!  Just leave it open if you think that your will need to use it again soon.  If you have to restart the remote PC, you will have to wait.

The irony is that I have never had a problem when I use the iPhone app.

AnyDesk is very generous by allowing us to use their server for free.

You can return the favor by allowing direct connections on local port. That would minimize usage of AnyDesk server, saving them resources.

I have not heard back from Team Viewer after sending them a "Declaration of private use".
I tried to connect with it today and got a message that a new release was available.  After installing it, I found I was no longer locked out and was able to connect.

Any Desk worked very well, but I do prefer Team Viewer on my Android phone, which I use for mobile use.

Late to the party, but the same issue just developed here.  TeamViewer now thinks I'm commercial.  I already use RealVNC as the primary remote desktop but need a backdoor way into my remote site.

TeamViewer has been great as it uses an integrated VPN.  My ISP changes the IP address every 24 hours and for that I use a Dynamic DNS service.  But, sometimes it takes 15-20 minutes for a site refresh whereas TeamViewer doesn't care.

So, my question is, what alternate remote desktop packages have a built-in VPN?  I do not need audio capability.

I was twice cut off from TeamViewer even though I only used it occasionally for remote access to my remote computer.  Was a real pain to get reinstated.  I have been using RemotePC (www.remotepc.com) for the last year.  Works great.  Quick, easy.  However does cost.  $6.95 for first year, then $69.50 per year.  My first year just finished and I paid the $69.50.  Well worth it in my opinion.  No hassles, works without problems.  I will never go back to TeamViewer.  John.
