Did you submit a claim to USPS for the damaged case?

What does USPS have to do with this? Did you not read his post?

Take a look at his pics. The radio was clearly dropped pretty hard on its edge to cause that kind of damage.

I think the point is that had the panels been put on correctly, they likely would not have been bent since they would have been flush with the case and not overhanging in the back as they are now.  Take a look at his pictures and you will see what I mean.  Aside from the shipping damage, the fact that the repair facility was so incompetent or lazy (has to be one or the other) to not put the panels back on right is really the overarching point here.

There's no way to know if the damaged occurred during shipping or in the shop. You just know that it was not reassembled correctly. Fortunately the panels appear to be flat plate so they could be straightened or new side plates made from sheet aluminum , the biggest issue is matching the paint.

It just sucks that you entrusted your "baby" to someone else  and it comes back looking that way.  Thats why  usually its best to do the repairs yourself , especially with boat anchors.

Barry:

Did you pay by credit card?

If you did, you have a golden opportunity to dispute the charge:  the repair service failed to properly reassemble your rig.

Step up to the plate and swing!

Regardless, it wasn't packaged correctly for shipping.  Repair shop screwed the pooch either way.

One would have to think that as a business, you should know better in how to pack and ship items, also, how to reassemble.  That glaring mistake was something else....

One side of a story is never definitive. But this does demonstrate a systemic problem in that far too many hams can't fix their own radios and particularly the ones relatively easy to diagnose/repair.

I don't see this as a "problem". Ham radio is an all-inclusive hobby, participated in by folks in all walks of life, with different interests in the many facets of the hobby. Not everyone has a background in electronics or a degree in electronic engineering.

"Relatively easy to diagnose/repair"? Radios manufactured in the last 40+ years are mostly solid-state, with miniaturized and surface-mounted components on small circuit boards. Not your Heathkits of the 1950's and 60's, and not everyone has the required test equipment to diagnose and repair them.

I get a kick out of the "elitists" that talk down to and criticize those that aren't as competent in electronic theory as them. Many boast of being "old-school 20 WPM Extra Class amateur". Whoop-dee-do. Well, this isn't "Professional Radio"...it's "Amateur Radio", and if one has the ambition to pass a required test to enter the hobby, no matter how "dumbed down" is has become, then they are amateur radio operators. No one's fault that the FCC changed the requirements.

10 weeks ago i contacted LEE about repairing my old ft101ee, i sent in the form, he replied send radio, i sent it he said he received it, that was the end of any email and calls, have tried to contact recently and nothing!! i have read a lot of reviews and pro's outweigh the cons, i then contacted clubs in his area, only one reply and it was good and also had a different phone number, so i tried again still no replies of any kind, i even contacted QRZ and reported this they said to be patient, well i dont know how mush more to be patient, when you dont get any type of reply !! i feel i have been ripped off.

He may not have been smart enough to put the cases back on properly or smart enough to package it properly. However, he was smart/slick enough not to accept PayPal.
You should have also drove there to pick it up.
I wouldn't trust any shipper these days with vintage equipment.

Lee is on several FB Groups quiet often & I hear glowing reports from many in those groups about his services? I have never used his services but I have considered doing so if I had needed any service done since he is here in Florida as I am & I could deliver & pick up any items I needed repaired. Here is his FB page https://www.facebook.com/TechnicalSpecialists

That seems to be the problem, Lee is "quiet" often, too often and that can be quite a problem.
