Kenwood TH-D72 APRS connecting for Scouts
« on: October 02, 2019, 06:52:40 PM »

Hi ...Can someone help me with this?
Want to connect my TH-d72 to ...whatever is easiest...PC, Android, IPAD...to see a map of where
the APRS transmissions are located.
I see it on youtube, but no explanation.
I assume I need a cable, some software, and some instructions. High priced or low priced options...whatever is best.
Can anyone get me started?
Thanks, 73
....Dave

Dave, Have a look at this website.  https://www.qsl.net/ja7ude/SmartPhone/w2aprs/indexe.html
I have it working with my Samsung S7 and also a cheap Leveno android tablet. With my TM-D72A

Your device will need to support usb to go, an adapter something like this is required.

 https://www.amazon.com/Android-Female-EVISTR-Adaptor-Smartphone/dp/B07L8B8S6R/ref=asc_df_B07L8B8S6R/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=343187928868&hvpos=1o

There is a free version of the software if you search for it. i am not the best with this type of stuff, but will help you if i can. email me at my call@arrl.net Good luck Steve KB3UWC

I did a little search and found this post from a few years ago:

I have a d74 and it works the same way but uses the Bluetooth so no cord is needed. As a alternative, why not just load up the d72 to beacon, then use APRS.fi to show them the map with your beacon and everything else around you? Should get the point across I'd think.

Are you transmitting beacons from the d72 and getting acknowledgements?
If so, then as stated, your tracking will show up on aprs.fi when you enter your callsign and search.
