Perth Plus Antenna restoration
« on: October 20, 2019, 07:41:08 PM »

I have a Perth Plus antenna in good working order, but the often found surface cracks. I'm thinking about a little JB weld for the larger cracks, a fine sanding & cleaning/surface prep followed by a few coats of black spray paint. Or possibly plasti-dip, just not sure how that will hold up in the long run exposed to the sun and elements.

Thoughts, ideas or experiences?

I may be wrong on this but, I believe JB Weld is an epoxy with finely dispersed metal particles in it.  Could that present a problem when used on an antenna?

JBweld epoxy is availabe with metal fill and without.
The metal filled version could affect the antenna if enough
was used but a few small spots not likely an issue.  I would
not use epoxy there because you really want flexibility.

the plastidip sounds good, with black spray paint.

Last time I encountered something like that I got a long
piece of glue filled (two layer) heat shrink. It flexes!
Covered the whole length.  Worked fine so far (7 years).
