Question about band S reception with MMDS downconverter
« on: October 20, 2019, 09:12:00 PM »

HI there,
That could be a dumb question :
Got an MMDS downconverter  CALAMP model 130002 and i wish to use it with a dish to try to hear or watch something from the sky...
before going to adventure ,i try to connect it on my bench to a wideband receiver after feeding it with an inline amp to homebrew 2.5 antenna.
What I get is trains of sounds of digital sound and dip dip zap, hiss etc...into the 350-380 Mhz band : probably the results of conversion of the wi-fi spectrum surrounding.

Then I 'm stuck with that project as i thing something is missing somewhere: i guess this converter is ouputing digitals signals : how and where then should i connect it to get something readable ?

Thank you for reading my post

Hello, I don't think you will find any readable signals with the unit inside our home. You might need to purchase a weak signal SOURCE/generator to test the unit. I'm also pretty sure you will need to build an interdigital filter. W6PQL has some examples on his website. https://www.w6pql.com/13cm_filter.htm
Once you marry the unit to a dish antenna once you point into the sky at the satellite much of the garbage you are ow receiving should disappear.
Good luck,
