Greyline Performance Antennas review - buyer beware
« on: November 04, 2019, 09:17:34 AM »

Our personal experience with Greyline performance is not a good one and we can’t recommend and only warn buyer beware.....we ordered a flagpole antenna on August 10, 2019. It now had been 11 weeks and no antenna and NO refund.. Although his website touts next day shipping in some cases and 3 weeks at the most, we’ve only received excuses. We have asked for a refund and now he has created a shipping label to appease us I guess. But after a week nothing has been tendered to UPS, and he has had plenty of time to refund our money,  At this point we just want our hard earned money back and not condescending emails how he’s doing this for the love of the hobby, he created a business and should act accordingly. Being new to the “hobby” I’m so disappointed over this. He should not be allowed to advertise in any ham magazine or website while people are not getting their “paid” for product or refunds for not delivering.

Hi,

Looks like you have the same complaint as a previous eHam Post:

I'm surprised anyone buys from them. Their reputation on eHam is rotten at best. Yes, future buyers beware.

I feel for the new ham that posted here. Their stuff is not cheap! I noticed in their Contact info there is no phone number or physical mailing address shown. That's not good, so I did a Whois lookup on their domain. I'll show results below. I've never seen one that hid everything from public view!

I think you are trying too hard. A brief read of their website content fills in the blanks.

Hopefully you paid with a credit card, or by Paypal.  If you did, you can contact the credit card company, or Paypal, and initiate a dispute.  You paid in good faith and have not received the product.  I don't care how much the guy loves the hobby, I agree with you.  Once a business takes your money they have an obligation to fulfill their part of the bargain, no excuses.

Amateur radio is very small marketplace and customer service is critical to anyone who expects to remain in business for any length of time.

In June 2021, I ordered the 24-foot non-HOA vertical antenna along with the MFJ 993BRT 300W ATU and 4-foot extension pole.  I received the antenna after weeks of waiting but no tuner nor extension pole, it is now September 2021.  I have called, emailed and smoke signaled to get a response from Greyline but there as been none.  I even wrote to the owner KL1A and no response.  I have read many unsavory comments about this company, unfortunately my gleaning of their reputability was after-the-fact.  I looked up their address on Google Earth which is 4391 S 2300th E, Holladay, Utah, 84124; it does not exist!
The BBB has 13 complaints against this company, not including mine.

It seems lots of folks live in a vacuum as  this dude has been ripping hams off for years. His escapades are all on the internet for anyone who does his due diligence to see. Is not like this guy is hiding his thievery. He rips off hams in the open and knows he can keep on stealing from hams for years to come. Folks, do your research and protect your hard earned money just don't give it away to petty thieves.

Owner's call is actually KL2A rather than KL1A. Wanted to correct that so that KL1A doesn't have a bunch of people mad at him :)

I think calling him a "petty thief" is a bit strong. I think he runs a hobby business and doesn't give a crap about customer support. But, there has been volumes of written complaints about his customer support and delivery issues that any ham who orders from this guy/company doesn't earn any sympathy from me.
Do your research before making a commitment.

True and understandable.

But the Greyline website has a great sales pitch and not everybody - especially new folks - will take the time to do due diligence on every purchase. For example, most wouldn't bother to check anything if they are buying from, say, DX Engineering or MFJ or even many of the smaller companies. And in an ideal world they shouldn't have to. Greyline is definitely the exception rather than the rule.

I too own a small ham-radio related company and we would NEVER treat our valued customers this way.

Ah,

He would not be a petty thief since this means petit theft where most states set the dollar amount at way less than what people say they are losing.  Thus the theft is grand larceny or grand theft.

I would just recommend everyone to be careful with their online purchases as the pandemic has made a lot of businesses very tight and their practices not always as fair is they usually are.  I've had to resort to PayPal and VISA return policies twice this year for online purchases that never came through.

I hope things get back to normal soon!

Not entirely on topic, but...

I've now unsubscribed several times from the Greyline's mailing list.  I even got an automated acknowledgement that I was unsubscribed.

Yet I keep getting them.  Go figure.

The email address shown in the mailing list is flagpoleantennas@gmail.com .  Whether or not it actually works, that's another story.

A domain/site owner who uses a GMail account for company business...yeah, there's nothing fishy about THAT.
