My Rigs RF causing Lennox Heat/AC thermostat to switch programs
« on: November 06, 2019, 12:06:49 PM »

I have a new Dave Lennox Signature Collection SL18XC1 AC/Furnace. Shortly after it was install I discovered the thermostat was changing programs when I was using my HF rigs. I finally placed toroids on the line going to the back on the thermostat which doesn't seem to help. I was running 400 watts which I've lowered to 200 watts voice. It now does it less often, but still happens. My previous
Lennox about 8 years old which I replaced never had the issue.
Please let me know if you help as I haven't contacted the installer company.

Can you describe the toroids you added? They type, the number of cable turns and the number of cores?

Yes it would be very helpful to know the mix number of the ferrites. IF you don't know then that is the problem. Good quality ferrites for solving these kind of problems with KNOWN mixes are expensive and effective when used as directed.  UNKNOW ferrites are useless. Or at best a shot in the dark. I found out all of that the hard way. Here is one good place to buy ferrites of known mix.  I suggest you start with mix 31

Come to think of it, I need to order some more.  After I got my amplifier, all sorts of little problems have cropped up that were not a problem at 100 watt levels.  I have been beating them down one by one. I have been trying to use ferrites out of my "junk ferrite" drawer, with not too much success. I have had to dip into my "good and expensive known ferrite"drawer. It takes real money to fix real problems.

Been there too, with even high quality beads all mixed up and unmarked.   An antenna analyzer fixes this!  ;)

Plus, if you have TDK, Fair rite, Wurth, Laird etc; its about the only way.
