Icom IC-775DSP Questions
« on: November 06, 2019, 06:22:24 PM »

I just bougt a 775DSP (early serial number <1200) and there are a couple of things that are not explained in the user manual. Hoping someone can give me some insight while I'm waiting for it.

First, I believe that I have a choice of using DSP or crystal filters for both receive and transmit. The DSP HPF/LPFs are self explanatory, but concerning the crystal filters, which filter in the chain is used for transmit?  The stock 9 MHz IF is a 2.4 kHz FL-80 and the 455 kHz IF is a FL-96 at 2.8 kHz. What would the transmit bandwidth be using analog filters?

There is a Mic Tone control on the front panel, but the manual only states to listen using the Monitor function when adjusting. Does the control boost high or low voice frequencies, or cut them, by roughly how much and is it actually noticeable?  I plan on using a SM-6 microphone and it could help with DX contacts to boost around 2K-3K (I've never seen any frequency repsonse chart for the SM-6 like I do for some Heil mics).

I've been reading about early serial numbers having Dual Watch VFO bleed through, but nothing about any way to fix it. Is there a cure?  Are there any other problems with the early ones, and any known fixes if there are?

Thanks for any help!
