Help with Icom V8 Display
« on: November 14, 2019, 09:13:46 PM »

I have a 12 year old Icom V8 VHF handheld, Has been below sea level in Death Valley and above 12,000 ft in the mountains.  I recently bought 3 new old stock batt's for it as the original NiCads still work but getting weak.  Also found a 1650 Mah NiMH batt for it I forgot I had.  It will tx/rx, show correct frequency but at times will not squelch until 9 and randomly will display an Ol... in the LCD display.  I've got 5 batteries for this radio, Icom no longer supports it but gave me several repair places that do.  With Boefangs at $50, I find it difficult to put much money into the V8.  Icom says there is no CMOS batt in the radio as that is exactly the way it acts.  This radio has been golden to me, anyone have any ideas, I'd really like to keep the radio as it does almost everything the new radio's do and is in excellent condition. I want to fix this one, especially with so many batteries.  Any input is greatly appreciated!!!
