Replace rubber PTT switch cover on Kenwood TH-G71A?
« on: November 16, 2019, 09:10:56 PM »

I picked up a used Kenwood TH-G71A HT at a hamfest today.  The price was good, until I looked closer and discovered the rubber PTT switch cover was gone.  It was in a baggie in a silent auction.  I should have looked closer!

I couldn't find a replacement switch cover on the Kenwood parts web site when searching by model number.   Can anyone suggest a suitable substitute I might be able to install on the radio?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

PacParts, which handles parts for Kenwood products, lists a "Button, PTT" that looks like the covers for the buttons on the side of the radio, including the PTT. Unfortunately, that is listed as a discontinued part. You can see the parts PacParts has for that radio at:

Patrick,

Thank you.  That certainly looks like the right item.  I'm not surpised it's discontinued.  I wonder if any other radio model uses a button which is alike enough to use as a substitute.  I suspect there isn't one, and if not, I'm not out a lot of money.  The radio came with an aftermarket speaker mike, so I can probably tape over the hole in the side of the radio and just use the speaker mike.

Thanks again for your time.

Around the same time the TH-G71A came out, Kenwood also released the TH-D7. The TH-D7 used the same battery packs and many other accessories as the TH-G71, but I think the buttons on the left side of the radio are different. PacParts has that assembly for the TH-D7, "Button Assembly (PTT/Lamp/Moni)":

https://www.pacparts.com/model.cfm?mfg=Kenwood&model_id=THD7A&row_start=1&src_model_id=TH-D7&action=list_part

The lamp and MONI buttons are angled on the TH-D7, where they aren't on the TH-G71.
