Professional Codex for remote audio
« on: December 18, 2019, 04:49:46 PM »

For over 12 years I have been using Skype for audio remote operation of my K3 plus TRX-Mgr for controlling the radio.  I have tried other codex's but always come back to Skype in spite of some frustrations:  Skype AGC, changes to set audio levels, latency, always changing  interfaces.

A broadcasting professional friend suggest Source Connect.  They make the software used by many/most radio broadcasting studio audio hookups.  There is a new version called "Source Connect Now" for PC's.  Selection of bit rates from 512K stereo to 256K mono, and lower.

I have been testing last few days and really like it.  Easy to use, no dropouts, low latency, able to select data rates to fit available bandwidth.  And the settings stay put!  Oh, need I mention, FREE?  This is professional software.

Thanks for the tip!  I just installed it and set it up.  The setup was confusing (for me), but I have audio coming from my remote transceiver in VE3 and I'm in Thailand.  I'm sure it'll become easier with use.  Thanks again!

Once I understood the setup, it went well.  I'm using the stand-alone version rather than going to google.  If you do that, you don't need to send an email to the "guest".  Just invite, and then at the guest (I use teamviewer), run SC Now and enter your account name, name of guest PC, and password (for that session).  It will then connect the guest.

The password is not your account password.  It's only a password for the session, I use 1234 all the time.  The guest PC name is whatever name you entered for the invite.

One other thing I found:  If you set up the PC (radio end) for stereo, you will get sub receiver on left earphone and main on right (or vise versa).  Super for working split DX.  And if sub is off, will automatically revert to mono (both left and right earphones).  Slick.  You will always want mono for your mic, however.
