Historic Radio Station SAQ Christmas Eve transmission
« on: December 23, 2019, 03:46:24 AM »

For all you Northern Hemisphere VLF enthusiasts don't miss listening for the transmission from SAQ, the Swedish Alexanderson alternator station on 17.2 kHz.  Tune up of the "Old Lady" begins at 0730 UTC on Christmas Eve, with a Christmas message at 0800 UTC.  The 200 kW Alexanderson alternator is a jewel of radio history, and congratulations and good luck to the SAQ volunteers who keep the station running.  Some more details at:

Good luck with crossing that off the bucket list, Sue.

From all accounts the 2019 Christmas Eve transmissions went very well.  It's impossible to over-state the dedication required by the SAQ team to keep a station like this open; congratulations to all concerned.

There are a number of reception reports rolling in on various email groups but for those who would like to hear the very musical note of the Alexanderson alternator, one of the best reports comes from Alberto, I2PHD at:  http://saq.weaksignals.com/  Click on the link to see the spectrogram and hear an audio clip.  Thanks to Alberto for making this available.
