DXLab question
« on: December 28, 2019, 08:32:45 PM »

One of the negatives for me in the past was that it's modular. You have to open up each individual module whenever you open the program. I'm pretty sure you can save the window positions, but my experience with that is it's not always 100%. I often have to line each window up edge to edge once opened. Yes, it's not a major issue but just an inconvenience. Are you able to link the modules together now so opening the program launches all the modules that you use or do you still have to open separate?

You need to use the DXLab Launcher program. When properly configured, it will start any or all of the modules you choose-- plus third-party programs such as DX Atlas. All my window sizes and positions are saved as well. I might add that it has worked that way for years.

I wholeheartedly agree with NI0C. I use the program on a daily basis and all modules launch. Be sure you configure the launcher module and all will be well.

As described in the Reference Documentation, you can define a group of DXLab applications non-DXLab applications, and start or terminate all applications in that group with a single mouse click. Enabling the Launcher's Autostart option will cause it to automatically start the group's applications when when you start the Launcher.

Great! I'll check that out. Currently using HRD, but I really don't like the way it handles logging QSO's with a pop-up screen, and the Greyline map seems like an after thought. I prefer an interactive map that shows cluster spots and draws bearing lines when a call sign is inputted, so i'm looking for a new logger.

There is a very active DXLab IO group where the writer Dave AA6YQ will answer your questions. It is worth joining

Has DXL improved? Seems I used it a long time ago and it seemed so clunky with all those windows that as I remember couldn't be resized. However, it worked with my FT757GX where WSJT won't although it was listed in the earlier one version, I haven't looked lately.

I didn't care for paging through the freq memory tabs either and 10 freqs per tab is not enough for all the bands in one tab. Not to say I use HRD V5 that much. I do like the HRD logbook, you can put everything in there and it backs itself up every time you close it, I'm sure any good log program does that too. It's a bit funny about uploading to lotw.

DXLab's primary objectives are to improve your ability to work needed DX stations by identifying their operating patterns and by identifying advantageous band openings from your QTH, and to increase the time you can spend DXing by automating electronic QSLing, paper QSLing, and award management:

If being able to resize every window in both dimensions is your most important criterion in selecting software with these capabilities, then you should choose an application other than DXLab.
