Kenwood 890 with Als-600 and ARI-500

I have everything hooked up and it seems to be working OK. I am wondering if I need the ALC connected to the amp. The amp works with and without it. Without it plugged in the ALC light comes on. The instructions don't seem all that clear to me concerning SSB and ALC. If so how do I adjust it.

I would leave it off. If you adjust the ALC on the exciter properly you won't need the connection to the amp. I have had several amps and modern transceiver and never use the alc to the amp connection.

Thanks for the reply. Not using the ALC was how I was inclined to operate the amp. Just wanted to check.
