collins 32s-3 driving Acom 2000A
« on: January 28, 2020, 12:56:39 PM »

Good evening everyone

I would like to ask a question ... if there is someone who uses an acom 2000 amplifier with a collins s line.
Occasionally by manipulating in cw, and piloting the amplifier with 20-30 watts, the acom goes into protection and a message "detected rf power at wrong time" appears ... I think it is a problem caused by the relay of the old transmitter.
Obviously this does not happen when driving the acom 2000 with an icom ic781.
I proceeded to clean the contacts of the relays of the collins without any change.
I must say that the PA goes to protection rather rarely, but I would like to know if someone happens and if he has found a way to solve the problem.

Please reply here and  at my email ik1qhb@fastwebnet.it

If your keying setup allows the transmitter to begin RF output before the amp has switched in, the bad thing (hot switching) can/will happen.
You need to switch the amp in first then bring up RF power.
Modern radios have a feature that delays RF output and gives the amp time to switch.

So what does your keying setup look like?

Maybe a QSK module or go old school and use a foot switch?

I'd prefer an automated setup as I am a sloppy operator and need all the help I can get.
If I get rattled, distracted, tired, my CRS kicks in at the worst times.

HI

Obviously collins 32s-3 has very few adjustment.
I'm owner of winkeyer3 that i think is possible to adjust the docking time of both relay, PA and TX.
But i am not able to understand on the manual the adjustment to
the adjustments to act on.
My knowledge of English language is really poor.
