how to use a receive only antenna on a 7600?
« on: February 09, 2020, 10:44:53 AM »

Anyone know how to connect a receive only antenna to an ic-7600?
I have an active antenna that is great for HF reception and I would like to try with the 7600 but the manual barely touches on the use of a receive only antenna. I've used the antenna on a couple SDRs (sdrplay and airspy) with no issue.
the antenna itself is like the one found here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/MiniWhip-Active-Antenna-HF-LF-VLF-mini-whip-ham-radio-receiver-shortwave-swl-sdr-/222327564468

I don't own a 7600, but just looked at a photo of the 7600 rear panel and see that there are in/out connectors for a receive antenna.  Connect your antenna to the In jack.  Then you need to find out how to cause the Receive antenna to be used for the receiver - a menu item or button.

On my 7610, just connect up the receive antenna to the receive antenna jack, and press and hold the Antenna icon on the screen and the 1 or 2 "R" will come up. indicating you will transmit on either antenna 1 or antenna 2 but you will receive on the "R" or receive antenna port.  I think the 7600 has a hard antenna change button, but I bet it works the same or nearly so.  I will look it up for you...

Yep, it works just exactly the same as my 7610 only the button is a hard button Upper left and the indicator is to the right of the button. But the operation is the same.  Press the button to switch between antenna 1 and antenna 2 port on the back panel, and which ever transmit antenna you select, if you push and hold for 1 second the receive antenna will be selected.  You will always transmit of the selected transmit antenna (either 1 or 2), but you will be receiving on the receive antenna if you select that.  To turn off the receive antenna just push and hold for 1 second the antenna button (upper left column) to transmit and receive on the same antenna.  The 7610 works exactly the same except the "button" is just an icon on the screen, even in the same position, but not a hard button.
