Arduino, CPAP, 3-D printer, MaGyvered ventilator
« on: March 20, 2020, 08:45:21 PM »

Had thought about skilled innovators from ham radio/ computer world, coming through with homebrew ventilators. It’s way out of my league, and would struggle to assemble step by step , simple grade school projects. I am always impressed by the innovative skills of hams, making and building unbelievable projects. Watching students and hams, working on projects at Dayton, I bet it’s possible. I searched online and saw, where a person used 3-D printer to make a patent infringed valve, and has something started. Yeah it might not be perfect, but we all know the need. I didn’t grow up with computers, so I’ll stay out of it, but there are people out there, across all corners of the world, that could do this. Collaboration with your friends, could possibly make it happen. Maybe present your project to somebody like Elon Musk. Maybe get Elon to pony up with a cash reward, to first group that builds a simple ventilator. If I’m laying in a bed, struggling to breath, with this deadly virus, and it’s a bootleg ventilator, or die, because there aren’t enough factory models, I’ll take your Rasberry Pi for a test run. There ARE innovators out there, that can do this. Please pick this project up, get with friends to try, and pass the challenge on to others too. As my grandfather used to say, you’ll find thousands of ways it won’t work, all you need is one way, to make it work. Help us out here. Hopefully this isn’t kicked off. It’s important.

Update: This post probably wasn’t much help in stirring action, but it is great to learn the skills of hams, are putting needed help, into the ventilator coming crisis. Well done. Just saw  a ARRL post, that hams are helping with Arduino, programming, with University in Florida, and designers and builders. Well done. I hope we get to hear the story of how things go, and if lives could be saved. If you, or someone you know, is involved in this , or is on the front line, in helping battle this Virus, I offer my sincere thanks, and appreciation. Jeff
