Question from antena Yagi Hornet
« on: March 28, 2020, 01:14:29 PM »

Dear friends, I have a 3 element yagi old model Hornet for 20,15 and 10m that I would like
put together but being a model from the 60s it is very difficult to find the manual or the
scheme on the internet, maybe you have some information about a 3-element yagi
multiband model HORNET TB - ????.

I have the diagrams of the
TB-100, TB-600 but none of those models looks like mine, maybe someone can explain to me how to adjust it, I will assemble and install it and the result
was

20m swr 1: 1
15m swr 2: 1
10m swr 1: 3

I don't know the separation between elements, maybe someone has some memory of the old TB antennas.
I attach some photos ...
I hope to have your opinion, a million thanks in advance.

Respectful greetings.

Eduardo CO8LY

Hola, buen amigo Eduardo CO8LY!   I have had the pleasure of working you on HF many times and I am very pleased to see you here, as well!

I would say that resonance is much more important than SWR, so if the antenna radiates well, the SWR is a minor issue.  I suspect that adjusting the matching device on the antenna (gamma-match, hairpin match, whatever) will help with the SWR.  Try the antenna on the air and see if it brings you contacts; you can improve the SWR later.

Con los mejores deseos a mi amigo en Santiago de Cuba, y 73!    --ken ac4rd

I understand that SWAN took over manufacture of Hornet antennas.  You might do an internet search on Swan antennas.

They made a 3 element tribander (TB-3A) and a heavy duty version (TB-3HA) shown in this advertisement I located on the internet...

Good luck!

Dear friend, thanks for answering my message, my antenna is a version that nobody
knows and I have only been able to find out that there is a model of the Hornet that is the FT-100 that
It looks a lot like mine, there was also a FT-105 or FT-110 model that may be the one that most
it looks like but the problem is that I can't find the diagrams anywhere, just
I see sales propaganda for that antennas in the 1950s, no one keeps those diagrams.

I don't know how to design my coil antenna in the air to resonate in all three bands.

All the models that I find from yagi 3elem 20,15 and 10m the coils of 10 and 15m go inside
of a metal tube with characteristics that I do not know and difficult to build.

Thank you very much for sending me the photo, but whenever I find something, only the price says
no technical information, I'm crazy about not being able to make the antenna as it was
of fabric.

Thanks .... Ed CO8LY

Study the details of other 3 and 4 element tribanders from CushCraft, Hi Gain, and others that are available on line. The Cushcraft A4 has the same 18' boom you already detailed in another Hornet thread. You can also use any other shorter boom dimension to duplicate another tribander.

https://www.manualslib.com/manual/902986/Cushcraft-A4s.html

Trap details are also detailed on many web pages. Have you taken the traps apart to study, measure, and clean??

Can you measure the resonant frequencies of your traps?

Can you build just a 3 band driven element, install 10-20' above ground, and test as a simple dipole, I read that you also have a nonoVNA to use.

While antenna manufacturers come and go, Physics does not change... ;-)
Perhaps this three element yagi calculator will fill in the missing pieces of the puzzle:

Post a pic of the antenna so we can see what kind of matching system it uses.
